Today was the epitome of a horrendous day of travel.
We had lots of mishaps and way too many delays.
I have never actually been to Chicago,
but I have now spent a total of
almost nine consecutive hours in the Chicago airport.
Let’s just say that is one part of the trip I definitely would not like to relive.
One bright side to the day was that
we saw a lot of famous people on our trek back home.
In the Dublin airport, Jerry Adams,
the leader of the Irish political party Sinn Fein,
was standing in line behind us waiting to check in.
That is until the security officials came
and moved him to the front of the line.
I guess that’s allowed—he is pretty important.
Then later when we got off the plane in Chicago
we discovered that the main characters
from the movie Once were on our flight.
They were even carrying their guitars with them,
probably heading for a show in Chicago.
I've never actually seen the movie,
but I really want to.
Doesn’t it look really good?
I also finished Her Fearful Symmetry on the plane.
It was a very interesting book,
not as good as The Time Traveler’s wife.
It was very supernatural,
which I was not expecting,
but it was entertaining at least.
We finally got back to Wash U around 1 am
(although unfortunately, thanks to daylight savings time, it was actually 2am)
and I was relieved to be back in my own room.
However, now that I’ve been here
and become reacquainted with my favorite friends tests and papers,
I’d rather be in Ireland.
Therefore, instead of boring you with the rest of the details of our day of travel,
here is a little review of my trip:
My favorite part:
Newgrange because it was so old and we actually got to go inside
Place I wish we could have spent more time at:
the area around Martello Tower
because it was absolutely beautiful
and I bet the beach is fun in the summer time
Place I would most like to study abroad:
Galway because I could actually see myself living there
Place I would like to see that we didn't:
the archaeology museum in Dublin
because I’m really interested in pursuing archaeology
Most interesting people I met:
Probably the married couple in Galway
because they were so genuinely interested to talk to us;
it was very refreshing.
Place I would recommend you visit:
the Aran Islands, especially Dún Aonghasa
because I’ve never seen anything like it.
Something I’d like to explore if I go back:
The more natural side of Ireland because
1. It’s absolutely stunning,
2. I love to go on walks and hikes and bike rides and
3. I love waterfalls and I bet Ireland has some hidden around
Well, this is the last of my posts about my trips.
Thanks for reading it and
thanks to my wonderful teachers for putting the whole trip together!
It was an amazing experience!!
Next week I will return to my normal quirky posts so get ready! ;)
